New Staff at St Albans Secondary College

Stav Bekiaris
Hi my name is Stav Bekiaris, I started teaching at St Albans SC in 1990 and left at the end of 2010.
After 21 years at the same school I wanted to challenge myself by teaching at another school as I felt that I had become too comfortable and complacent at SASC. I was a co-ordinator/Leading teacher in the Middle School for 11 of those years.
After five years at a neighbouring school, I found myself still missing St Albans SC, the students and staff. I still loved teaching and I wanted to come back to SASC. I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to do so.
I teach Maths and am currently the Senior Sub School leader.
Shona Cowell
Hello St Albans Secondary College.
My name is Shona Cowell and I am pleased to introduce myself as the Assistant Sub School Leader in the Middle School. I am excited to step into to this role, and look forward to working with the Year 9’s and 10’s to help them achieve their academic goals.
I have spent the last four years at Hoppers Crossing Secondary College where I was the Year 8 and 9 coordinators during this time. I teach English and Humanities and love how both these subjects can introduce you to new worlds and interesting people.
My favourite activity to do when I am not at school is to travel. My goal is to explore as many different countries and cultures as I can. This past summer I was fortunate enough to go to South America. During this time I hiked the Inca Trail, explored Machu Picchu and saw two of the seven wonders of the world.
I look forward to working with this vibrant community of SASC and getting to know you all.
Tanya Uwarow
Hi. My name is Miss Uwarow and I am really happy to be here at St Albans Secondary College. I have come from Copperfield College Senior Campus where I taught Year 11 and Year 12 English and VCAL Literacy. Here at the SASC I am teaching English at different levels across the College.
As well as English, I am also passionate about Drama and the Performing Arts. I have participated in a variety of Amateur Theatre shows and just recently performed as part of the Vision Australia’s Carols by Candlelight which was lots of fun. I follow sports too; I am a big Western Bulldogs fan and I also follow Manchester United in the soccer. I enjoy watching movies, getting outside and enjoying nature, going camping and spending time with family and friends. I look forward to my time at St Albans Secondary College.
Lizzy Fitzgerald
My name is Lizzy Fitzgerald and I previously taught at Shepparton High School and Melbourne High School, and just returned from some time experiencing the charter school system in the USA. I am very excited to be joining the team at St Albans Secondary College to teach English!
Seijiro Nishioka
Konnichiwa! My name is Seijiro Nishioka and I teach Japanese and Art. I have a Japanese background but I spent most of my time overseas. I feel very at home in such a multi-cultural community and I hope to bring many exciting lessons to the school. If anyone is interested in playing basketball or soccer, put me on the team!
Peta Burgess
I’m teaching English and Literacy at Years 8 and 9 this year and am very pleased to read ‘Animal Farm’ with the Year 9 students. This is a novella from one of my favourite authors, George Orwell. I have taught English at Years 7-12 at Hoppers Crossing Secondary College and Strathmore Secondary College. In my spare time, I enjoy travelling, cycling, yoga and reading.
Clara Singh
Hi, I’m Clara Singh. This is my first year teaching after graduating from the University of Melbourne. I’m teaching Science and Chemistry and am excited to come in to teaching after working as a scientist in pathology - running blood tests, in a tissue bank - cutting up human cancer tissue for research, and in animal research - observing the welfare of sows and piglets. I am interested in all aspects of science and want to encourage my students to be creative, resourceful and critical thinkers. In my spare time I love bushwalking, camping, riding my bike, sewing, cooking and growing vegetables.
Vaninder Kaur
Hello! This year I am teaching English as an Additional Language and Humanities. I am looking forward to working with Years 7, 8, 11 & 12. I enjoy cooking, reading and travelling. Outside of school, I love time with my family and friends. I am also the lucky mother of a beautiful daughter, who keeps me busy and entertained.
It is an absolute pleasure to be teaching at a school where both the staff and students are so helpful and welcoming.
