Celebrating 60 Years

This year, St Albans Secondary College is very proudly celebrating 60 years.

On 7 February, 1956, the year of he Melbourne Olympics, St Albans High School opened in the Presbyterian Church Hall in Anderson Road, Sunshine.

Its 126 students, representing 21 nationalities, had their classes in 3 classrooms, divided by moveable screens.  The kitchen in the hall was the third classroom, the Head Master, Mr Barker’s, office, the secretary’s office, and the staffroom.

Mr Barker had to walk across the road to the public phone box to make a call as the school had no phone!  Something that is unimaginable in our very connected world.  And each Friday they had to pack away the classrooms so the church hall could be used for its original purpose on Sundays.

In 1957, St Albans High School moved to its current site, and now we are 1370 students, and 156 staff, with over 50 languages represented in our community.

And, just like the original school, we are proudly multicultural, and we celebrate the strong sense of community amongst our students, staff & parents.

We have some wonderful celebrations planned for the year, among them a dinner dance for past students and staff on Saturday 11 June at Moonee Valley, and an Open Day on Sunday 12 June at the school.

So this is a big call out for past student and staff to join us at these events.

You can register and find out more on our website at www.stalbans.vic.edu.au.
