BLAKELEY ROAD LIBRARY NEWS

Year 8/9 Literature Enrichment Program

Twenty-five students from years 8 and 9 were invited to participate in the Enrichment Program, based on recommendations from English teachers, and a passion for reading. The theme for 2016 was “Classic Literature”; with students encouraged to read from a selection of quality literature, including poetry, short stories, plays and novels. Some of the more popular authors chosen were J.D.Sallinger, Jane Austen, Shaun Tan, William Shakespeare, Sylvia Plath, Wilfred Owen, and F.Scott Fitzgerald.

As well as reading and reviewing some thought-provoking literature, the students were also invited to attend workshops run by our talented English teachers.

CSC Reading Challenge

Thirty-nine participants! Over 30 million words read!

The CSC Reading Challenge is over for another year, with students invited to a Morning Tea and Awards ceremony to celebrate the conclusion of a term of reading. Assistant Principal Paul Frye was on hand to award prizes to those students who achieved their reading goal.

Congratulations to all students who took part in the Challenge. A very big thank you also to our Challenge sponsors Dymocks Bendigo, and Stonemans Bookroom.
