CARER WORKSHOPS IN THE SOUTHERN METRO REGION

These education workshops are being facilitated by AlfredHealth Carer Services:

 

Anxiety and the Caring Role

Everyone feels stressed or worried sometimes. Anxiety is when these anxious feelings don't subside. More than 2.3 million Australians experience anxiety but we know carers experience anxiety at a higher rate than most people in the community. It's a serious condition that makes it hard for a person to cope with daily life.

Better Start – Moving Forward Workshops

The Better Start for Children with Disability Initiative – Moving Forward Workshops are for parents and guardians whose children are preparing for, or have recently entered, primary school and who are looking at how to best support their children during this transition period. 

 

The workshops will provide information on resources, funding, transitioning to school, and support services for families at the end of the Better Start initiative. They will also cover strategies for planning for the move to the NDIS. 

The Workshops are FREE and morning tea and lunch will be provided.

Towards Recovery: Hope, Innovation, Co-design Conference - Melbourne

In VICSERV’s 30th anniversary year, the Towards Recovery conference will provide an important forum for the discussion of issues critical to community mental health professionals, consumers and carers.

The roll out of the NDIS; the development of the 10 year Victorian mental health strategy and the indication that there will be national mental health reform means 2016 will be an important year for all stakeholders with an interest in the mental health system. More info here.

 

New Carer Support Group

The City of Melbourne understands that while rewarding, being a primary carer is not always easy. To show their support for the invaluable role primary carers play in the community, the City of Melbourne is starting a Carer Support Group. This group will meet regularly and will be an opportunity for support, respite and friendship. Call 03 9658 9658 or see here for more information.

Collingwood College sisters Mabel  and Ivy from Year 10 and 8, have a duo called "Charm of Finches". You may have seen them play their original songs at our Spring Fair.

They are currently recording their second album after a grant from the City of Melbourne and are running a Pozible crowdfunding campaign to help get the album artwork and pressing done.
