Assistant Principals' Reports

Primary & Secondary News
Dear Parents and Carers,
It’s been very busy few weeks here at Collingwood College. A highlight for us was our fantastic ‘Open Day’ last Wednesday. We had many people visit and take a tour on this day, and it was pleasing to ‘show off’ our great school to others. We must mention our student volunteers who assisted with our tours. They were sensational!
The Attitudes to School Survey was conducted late last week with all Yr5 – Yr 12 students. The survey assists schools to gain an understanding of students’ perceptions and their experience of school. It provides us with valuable data on students’ views of their wellbeing, teaching, learning and school in general. This is the tenth year that the survey has been offered. All responses to the survey are anonymous and the survey results will be reported back to the school at the end of July. Please speak with your child’s teacher if you would like further information.
As many of you would know, the National Assessment Program– Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is being conducted next week. All years 3, 5, 7 and 9 students at Collingwood College along with students from across Australia will be participating in this program.
If your child is in one of these years, the program which will run on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and will assess the children’s skills in four areas -reading, writing, language conventions (spelling, punctuation and grammar) and numeracy. These are the skills every child needs to help them progress through school and succeed with future work and study opportunities. These national test results provide information on how your child is progressing and performing in these key areas and also help to support improvements in teaching to benefit your child.
The data from NAPLAN test results will give us at Collingwood College the ability to measure our students’ achievements against National Minimum Standards and student performance in other states and territories. Reports on individual student performance are provided to all students and parents in September.
The assessment that teachers and students are involved in on a daily basis in school provides a far more comprehensive analysis of student achievement and the areas for future learning. At the end of this term, this is presented to all parents as part of our reporting process. Currently, the teachers are gathering up all the relevant evidence and working collaboratively in Learning Communities to develop detailed and valuable summaries of your child’s learning.
Next week we will bring you pictures from our great year 5-10 Athletics Day.
