Term 2 - A very different look

We have had a very interesting Term 2 2020.  I want to acknowledge the work of the staff during the remote learning time.  They designed something that we could have never imagined in March & delivered a learning program that supported needs for the community.  I also want to acknowledge the work of families supporting remote learning at home.  I know there were some challenges, but we are impressed with the engagement we saw from many families.  Students did an amazing job managing a new way of learning and I am also very proud of them.  One of the great things we have felt from this remote learning time, was the strength of relationships with our families.  While we weren't together in person, communication was high.  We felt the love & support from your emails & messages on Class Dojo.  We have 97% of families connect through this app.  We also appreciated the gifts and gestures from our families during this time.  It was confronting for staff to make videos & I know it was for me to see myself on videos; but we appreciated your support and kindness during this time.  A big Thanks to Annie & Bec for making us camera ready.

We have welcomed students back last week.  Its been so heart warming to get to see them again & do some face to face teaching.  We welcomed 4 new families to the Grove this term - some that first engaged with remote learning- so it is fabulous to have them on site now & really get to know them.  I hope you are happy here as part of our school community.

With the students back on site now we are encouraging all families to re-engage with school.  Teachers are back to planning and delivering face to face lesson that we can no longer support remote learning at home.  If you have concerns please contact the office to discuss individual needs.

Primary Schools – Essential to our Economy" School Noticeboard Message

State primary schools across Queensland whose leaders are members of the Queensland Association of State School Principals, are this week displaying on their school noticeboards the message: "Primary Schools – Essential to our Economy".

It’s been said that: “No other investment yields as great a return as the investment in education”. Research certainly confirms that education is one of the clearest indicators of life outcomes including employment opportunities, income and social status, and also a strong predictor of physical and mental wellbeing. In every sense, education is one of the fundamental drivers of a vibrant community and a thriving economy.

Our state primary schools support the development and creativity of young learners through innovative and differentiated approaches designed to ensure all students have access to education at their level of need. This work provides the foundation of all future learning. We provide a safe, supportive environment that nurtures the development of students intellectually, physically, artistically and emotionally.

The current health crisis has also highlighted the extent to which parents depend on schools as they go about their working lives and the role schools play as hubs of community support and resilience.

So as you pass by our school sign this week, we hope you will reflect on the vital role state primary schools play in keeping our economy humming but also in working alongside our community to prepare our children to be active contributors to our collective future.

Student Resource Scheme

Families that have selected to engage in this scheme for classroom books this year will be receiving the term 2 invoice over the next couple of days.  There are some families that with all the COVID-19 issues have overlooked paying Term 1 invoices.  We would appreciate you paying this as quickly as you can when you receive your invoice, using QKR or bpoint.  We cannot take payments over the phone anymore.

Covid-19 Updates

The Covid advice I emailed home last week is still the most current advice.  Please continue to stay out of school grounds as much as possible to keep adult numbers in the school as low as possible.  We are ensuring that students are engaging with high personal hygiene standards and cleaning high touch points regularly.

School Photos

We are working to rebook the date for these. I will let you know when I have a confirmation on the date.

Sports House Shirts

These are almost all sold out.  The students are looking amazing in them.  We only have 3 or 4 left in the office.  I will send out a survey & order form at the end of term to order some more.  Students are to wear the shirts of Thursdays only to show team pride.  Loongana won last week for having 25 students in their shirts.
