Introducing our new Careers Counsellor - Ms Tonya Wimhurst

I would like to introduce myself. My name is Tonya Wimhurst and I am the new PCW Careers Counsellor. I understand I have big shoes to fill as Ms Larritt did such a wonderful job. I am really excited to get to know the PCW community.

Career planning can be daunting, however the beginning of the school year is a really good time to set some career research ‘resolutions’. Starting to think about life beyond PCW and learning about different study and career pathways might feel a bit nerve wracking at first, but once you start to explore, you might start to feel excited about the future.

Some useful resources to get you started

My Future:

You’ll need to sign up – you might like to check out the ‘Occupations’ section which includes some really interesting short videos.  It’s also good to look through the ‘Bullseyes’ which link careers to different subjects

Youth Central:

Learn about your rights as an employee and what you can do if you think you're being treated unfairly.

Year 10 Work Experience

Work experience is an opportunity to get the feel of a particular career. This is offered to Year 10 students in three blocks of time over the year. Students choose one week in any given block and need to apply to do this. Students will have a briefing in March and be provided information about the process. The blocks of time for work experience are as follows:

  • Term 2: 6 – 17 May
  • Term 3: 5 – 16 August
  • Term 4: 7 – 18 October

*Please note, some organisations require Work Experience applications to be submitted up to a year in advance.

Work Experience with Victoria Police

Applications for Terms 3 and 4 of the 2019 Victoria Police Work Experience Program will open from Monday 11 February 2019 and will close 4:00pm Friday 15 March 2019.

Each school can nominate one student to participate in the program for the school year.

Any interested Year 10 students should speak to me about applying ASAP

I will be available in the Careers room (N110 ground floor of the Nagle Building)

Monday, Tuesday and Thursday to discuss any matters related to career options and tertiary pathways.

Please feel free to email me to make an appointment: twimhurst@pcw.edu.vic.au
