Principal Report

A message from the Principal

Ms Nerina Pretlove

As the year rapidly comes to a close, we are preparing to welcome our 2020 Year 7 students  and their parents on Tuesday 3 December for Orientation Day.  For our present Year 7, the year has flown past and we are thrilled with their progress on both academic and social domains. We recently surveyed them on their transition from primary school, their engagement with learning and relationships.  Overwhelmingly, they expressed their happiness in their new school, how quickly they have settled and positive perspectives of their teachers and learning.

Congratulations to our new Year 10, 2020 Captains, Cassidy Rampton and Jeremy Navarro and Vice Captains Sagar Saburi and Leonel Vallejos-Praslin. We decided to have another level of leadership in recognition that many students come to high school having been in leading positions in their primary schools.  They join our outstanding Year 12, 2020 leaders and the Student Leadership Team to move our school forward.  Thank you to Ms Kavanagh and her team for all their work in providing opportunities and developing our students’ leadership capacity.

Year 11 students have been keeping diaries to map their sleep patterns over the past fortnight following a workshop about the impact of lack of sleep and the impact of electronic devices. At the follow up workshop, they analysed their diaries and reflected on their sleep habits with a specialist from the Sleep Connection.  We are going to extend this opportunity to other students and run a parents’ masterclass in 2020 as part of our well-being focus.

Our students have completed their external Year 12 exams and now await the release of their final results which will be available on the 17th December 2019. We remind students that they can approach our school for support through their Deputy Principal Ms Doyle, Year Adviser Ms Abawi and Careers Advisor Ms Janson after they have received their results, whether it is to celebrate or for ‘where to now’ advice. I would also remind students that they are not defined by a piece of paper but by what they do in life.

As we head towards the holiday season, there are many events coming up including our first musical production for a long time, Aladdin; The Big Night In - to celebrate Year 7 students’ projects; Swim School; Year 10 Celebration Evening; reports; Presentation Evening and more.  Please come to these events which showcases and celebrates the amazing talent and successes of our students and staff.
