Final Days for Year 12

Our year 12 cohort was farewelled last week  in a lovely assembly attended by the entire school and Mayoress Maryanne Brown.  The students reflected on their time at Baimbridge and their aspirations for their futures with the audience and Mayoress Brown passed on her best wishes and hopes that the youth  of our town will either contribute to the workforce here straight out of school, or if they go off into the world that they make come back and offer their experience to our industry.

Whatever the future holds for our students they are always welcome back at any time to share their experiences.

Happy Harley

Last Thursday Rohan Fitzgerald presented one of two Southern Grampians Youth Achievement Awards to Harley Addinsall.  The Award recognises young people in our community who have demonstrated some of the following characteristics: personal growth whilst overcoming challenges in their daily life, shown leadership or contributed through volunteering or participation in the performing arts, alternative sports or visual arts.

Applications for the awards can be made by contacting Tracey.McDonnell@wdhs.net. The awards are supported by WDHS, LLEN, YACVIC and Winda-Marra Aboriginal Corporation.

Well done Harley,  your community values and leadership skills shown through your involvement with The Standing Tall  Program have been well deserving of this award.

Halloween Fun for a good cause

Well done to all students and staff who participated in the Halloween dress up theme day to raise money for Love Your Sister and The Phillips Family.  It's always great to see how creative our students are and this year did not disappoint!

Scot Gardner visits Baimbridge

Students in years 7-10 were privileged to have Scot Gardner, Australian author, present to them today.  Scot was a highly entertaining and informative presenter who had great advice about writing for our students.

For more information on who Scot is and his books please visit his website:

Year 12 vs Staff Softball

Last week we held the Staff vs Year 12 event and this year it was a game of Softball.  After a late entrance by the majority of the Year 12's, the game got underway with students batting first.  Some foul balls and  big hitting saw the kids get off to a great start, so the staff gave Mrs McArthur the sly wink and had her pop her shoulder out on first base to stop the game, not allowing the Year 12's to claim victory.

In all seriousness, the reality of playing sport is that injuries happen and Mrs Mac indeed did dislocate her shoulder and we did need to call the ambulance but is back on deck already and will make a full recovery.  It will be a game she will never forget!

Year 11 VCE Food Studies

The Year 11 VCE Food Studies group have been studying Meal planning and preparation within Unit 2.  This Picnic preparation prac involved recipe sourcing, completing a food order, and creating a production plan.

I really enjoyed the level of engagement as the students created a diverse array of scrumptious treats.  Each group had to prepare two savoury items and one sweet.

I also really enjoyed the attention to detail the students employed in their processes, and in ensuring their finished product was as aesthetically pleasing as possible.

A common thread ran through one part of the evaluations - they had overestimated the amounts required for their groups.  Wendy agreed lol!

Can you help??

Our canteen is in desperate need of volunteers.  With only 7 names on the roster in 2019 (thank you  thank you thank you for your contribution to our school ladies) we are calling for volunteers.

We do not care how long you can give.  One hour will be better than nothing.

Our canteen has already lost one trading day and the students miss that dearly.  Without volunteers we could lose another.

If you are able to assist please complete the form below and return it to school.  We appreciate anything we receive from our volunteers.

What is this RP Room I'm hearing about?

Some parents may receive a Compass Chronicle notification email to alert you to your child having been sent to the RP Room.  RP stands for Restorative Practise, which will now replace Time Out.

The two are similar, in providing the platform for relief from situations that cause distress for students, classes and staff alike.

The RP room is manned by Mrs Bernadette Cook and is located next to the YLC room which enables students to have a direct line to their YLC when available and foster relationships there.

At Baimbridge, the assumption is always made that students want to learn and that teachers want to teach, teachers are to follow procedures that offer opportunities to restore relationships within the classroom prior to sending students to the RP room.  If this process fails or is not possible due to classroom constraints (eg class is in the middle of assessment or practical lesson) the student will then be sent to the RP room to complete a sheet to record and reflect the way they feel and what they can do to restore the relationship.

The student may then be sent to an alternative class room if work has been provided by the classroom teacher or remain in the RP room depending on their level of distress.  A restorative meeting with the student and teacher must be held prior to the student returning to the class room.

If  a student is referred to RP more than three times per term, a formal discussion will be conducted between the student, teacher and Year Level Coordinator with hopes of the restoration of relationships.

Time Out historically provided the same service, RP adds another layer in which both the student and the staff member have a structure that brings forth the conversation and restoration of one of the most valuable resources in the classroom, the relationship between the teacher and the student.

Peer Support 2019

Twenty Five students have spent the day in the Mad House today undergoing Peer Support training for the 2019 Year 7 cohort.  The group will accompany our newest students on camp and assist with Orientation Day on December 11 as well as the first week of 2019 activities.  The students learn about how to support younger students, the importance of doing so and leadership skills encouraging participation in the younger students.

Duck Derby for a Baimbridge Family

The Hamilton Police are holding a Duck Derby on Saturday the 1st of December at the lake to raise money for the Phillips Family.  If you are not familiar with the nuts and bolts of what a duck derby is, people 'purchase' a rubber duck for $20 (when they say purchase they mean you are purchasing the number of the duck, you do not receive an actual rubber duck - it's like a Melbourne Cup Sweep if that makes more sense) and your duck is dumped into the lake along with all of the other purchased ducks where it has to navigate it's way through a specially designed course built from floating plastic pipe powered by wind and currents.  The first duck across the line wins the major prize of a $2000 Harvey Norman voucher and there are several other prizes donated by local business.

We have Duck Tickets available to purchase at the front office for $20 and encourage as many families to rally for one of our own.

There is also a Go Fund Me campaign if you wish to assist the family in another way:
