What is Social Emotional Learning?

Social-Emotional Learning is the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. With a renewed focus on Social-Emotional Learning, Otis Orchards has begun utilizing the  Second Step Curriculum.

The Second Step curriculum is a classroom-based program designed to teach children how to understand and manage their emotions. Second Step lessons are designed to teach and reinforce the following four life skills: Problem-Solving, Empathy, Emotion Management, and Skills for Learning.

College/Career Fair

Otis Orchards' annual College and Career Fair is scheduled for Friday, May 10th. Representatives from local area colleges and apprenticeships will be here to speak with our 5th and 6th grade students. Some of our guests include representatives from Whitworth, EWU, WSU, University of Idaho, North Idaho College, Community Colleges of Spokane and Northwest Laborers Employers Trust. We are hoping to expand this list to include more representatives from career fields not requiring college degrees.
