FUN WITH BEE BOTS

During the second half of Term 2, 1 Coral learnt how to use Bee Bots (a programmable robot) to perform simple tasks like navigating a maze and responding to instructions. This was done during their Computer Technology lessons with Mrs Quinn. Mrs Harbison participated too, and learnt as much as the children.

1 Coral worked in collaborative groups to set tasks for their Bee Bots and then see whether their instructions were successful.

Other activities included:

• Code the Bee Bot to move forward for a specific distance and direction along a pathway.
• Code the Bee Bot to travel to different places on a map.
• Code the robot to move across a number chart.
• Code the Bee Bot to trace different shapes.

These little critters are a great place to start with young learners, to introduce the concept of coding, teaching control, directional language and programming. Coding is creating computer programming codes.
