Alia Wong - 2021 House Logo Design Committee

The SRC’s House Committee has spent the year consulting with students and teachers and developing new solutions to reform the House system. One of the common themes that we identified was that our Houses should not only be recognised by colour, but should also have  recognisable symbols or logos. In response, the House Logo Design Committee was created earlier this year.

Students across Years 7 to 12 who shared  a passion for art and design came together to tackle the project,  meeting on a weekly basis. The Committee surveyed the student community, who voted on animals to become the mascots of their houses, and the committee began to draft and sketch various concepts each week.  They also consulted the expertise of Visual Arts & Design teaching staff, who offered their skill and experience in this area.

In the end, the team created four stunning logos for our Houses: A lion (Oro - gold), a snake (Cagaar - green), a shark (Lan Se - blue) and a polar bear (Abyad - white).

Moving forward, we hope to cost and develop signage that will use our logos and that can be displayed at sports carnivals and other House events!

The House Logo Design Committee was an amazing experience for me - the members were very nice and we all shared a similar passion for creativity and designing. After brainstorming different ideas for how we wanted the logos to turn out, we decided to create animal emblems for each house. We put up a poll for the school community  to decide what animals the majority wanted for their house, and then we started experimenting with different logo designs for the chosen animals. Sunny and I then started rendering our finalised options, using PANTONE colours, which are a worldwide colouring system. This will ensure that once we print out the logos onto banners and possibly other items like badges, the colours will all be the same.

I'm extremely excited to see the physical logos, and I hope the school community likes them just as much as we do!

My experience making the house logos was very good! The committee was very welcoming and when brainstorming ideas, everyone's ideas were welcomed. The whole group was amazing during this process, and we soon finished the designs. Overall, my experience with the House Logo Committee was great, and I'm looking forward to seeing the physical completed logos!
