2021 has been a great year for the SRC.

This year, we had a record number of students join the student leadership program - 40 to be exact!

We have seen many reforms to the operational structure of our SRC with the monumental introduction of our committee structure. Our members have put in so much effort this year and we hope the articles included in these pages of the Brunswick Star reflect their hard work.

Congratulations to the SRC of 2021 for such a successful year.

We are thrilled to begin our new roles as School Captains together. We look forward to leading the SRC and student community to grow and flourish in our exceptional learning environment.

We have an amazing team for 2022  - welcoming new members along with students from the 2021 SRC who will continue thier service to the student community.  This team is truly dedicated to making the school a better place for their peers and staff.  We have many new ideas and are very excited for the year to come.

Despite lockdowns and periods of remote learning, the Student Representative Council has been busy all year, finding ways to continue to engage the student community, develop and exercise leadership skills, as well as to enjoy meaningful collaboration and progress on their projects.

While some plans had to be shelved,  the effort and experience gained in initiating new ideas and considering logistics for events  will be carried forward into 2022.  Conversely, other projects, such as the design of House Logos, have greatly benefited from extra time available for members to use for consideration and collaboration.

The 'divide and conquer' approach to managing a busy  SRC - that is, creating subcommittees that can focus on specific tasks - has championed the democratic culture of our SRC.  The system has seen members pursue issues for which they have a particular passion, as well as allowed for a division of labour - the wider SRC membership has actively shared the workload across the year.  This has lead to great success in spite of the obvious challenges faced by students over the past 10 months, with School Captains, Paul Ting and Tara Dennison, supporting the new approach, leading by example and demonstrating real commitment to improved practices.

SEC Leaders Sienna Seychell, Madeleine Horner, Ella Davis, Otis Tobin, Alexandra Sharples and Vy Vu were unwavering  in their support of their Captains and along with an active and dedicated team of Area Representatives, proved instrumental as changes were made.

Collectively, the Captains, the SEC Leaders, Area Representatives and general SRC members have ensured that they have established a strong base from which the 2022 SRC can launch next year.  Importantly, a significant number of SRC 'senior' members will continue to drive the program in 2022, bringing their experience, skills and enthusiasm to mentor younger members in the ranks.

So, many thanks to the 2021 SRC for the legacy they have continued to build upon, and the college extends particular gratitude to the 2021 Graduates who leave us this year.  This group has consistently and tirelessly lent their support and efforts to the SRC throughout their school careers.

Best wishes to the 'new' SRC of 2022 - may the have every opportunity to thrive and flourish going forward!
