Junior School News

As we approach the end of Term 4, the Year Level Engagement and Sub-School Leaders begin the process of creating classes for 2022. As you will recall, where possible, we kept classes from 2020 almost the same for 2021 to create some stability and give students some time together in these classes which they missed during the course of last year. Although we find ourselves in a similar situation again in 2021, it is now time to shuffle students around and create the best learning environment for them again with their peers.

There are several factors that are considered in finding the best balance for each class such as:

· Achievement levels

· Behavioural challenges

· Interpersonal relationships between students

· Teacher recommendations

Achieving even a semi-equal distribution of these factors simultaneously is no small feat! Our priority is creating a high performing and positive classroom environment ensuring a stimulating space for students to achieve their best and display the College’s Positive Learning Behaviours. As a result, requests for classes based on interpersonal relationships between students, in writing, will be accepted until Wednesday 24th November. We thank you for your co-operation and understanding in supporting what is best for all of our students at Emerald Secondary College and look forward to a positive and exciting start to 2022. (Please note that students who are in Home Groups with a specialist program – SEAL or Science Academy, will remain unchanged so that these programs can continue to be facilitated).
