a chapter or two

The bible is full of chapters with amazing stories in them. If you were to describe the main story that threads its way through its pages, you might call it something like ‘God’s Redeeming Love- The Story of Jesus’

It’s interesting to note that God doesn’t operate on his own but instead chooses to work with and through people. When the time came for him to position his cherished infant Son in the world, he chose to place him in the loving and caring arms of a family...

Imagine a chapter or two in the life of Mary. One minute an ordinary girl living an ordinary life when suddenly, an angel appears before her telling her not to be afraid… She was chosen to be the mother of God’s precious Son Jesus. As daunting as this prospect was, Mary responded in faith and said yes! Her life (and Joseph’s) set course for adventure. Full of wonder, hope, heartache, pain and love.

We sometimes describe our own lives in terms of chapters, and for our community, one chapter closed yesterday as we bid farewell to our beloved Pastor Reid, our friend and valued member of our Good Shepherd family.

Children and parents described him as funny, happy, joyful, passionate, (old 😊) and strong.

We reflected on how he shared time with us… walking, talking, listening, playing, camping, joking, laughing, dreaming and telling amazing stories.

We loved his creative costumes and his stories about Jesus and other people in the bible, shared in and outside the Chapel.

We realized that over time he had given us an example of what it looks like to love God and love others.

While it is the end of this chapter, we also realized that a new chapter awaits, for Pastor Reid and his new school, but also for us here at Good Shepherd. Still part of the same family, with Jesus, just serving in another part of God’s backyard!

What God inspired adventures are being written in your story? Know two things as they emerge… That God loves you and that he is with you in them all.

God encourage and bless you all!
