Year 9

Camp

After multiple date changes to avoid lockdowns and restrictions, Year 9 Camp finally ran in Week 8 this term! Moved from Tasmania to Melbourne CBD to avoid issues with border closures, 150 students experienced the hidden gems and wonders of Melbourne across four days and three nights! We jammed a lot in, including a scavenger hunt around the city, Melbourne Uni exploration (thank you to CHS alumni Faiza, Stefan and Spud for showing students around!), learned more about empathy and the hidden story of homelessness in Melbourne through a guided tour and workshop, walked the Tan or rock climbed at Hardrock or swam at Melbourne City baths, went on a river cruise, and undertook walking tours that focused on student interests (art, culture, gaming, food, fashion) - and that was just the days! Nights saw us dining out in Chinatown or Melbourne Central, gaming at Fortress, watching a movie and singing karaoke/bowling/minigolfing and laser tagging! We definitely came home exhausted but with so many wonderful memories to cherish.

Overall it was a really good camp, learnt more about people and strengthened existing friendships. so it was good. Before camp I thought the activities were going to be mostly boring and that I wouldn't learn anything, but i learned stuff and had fun over camp. so it was pretty good.

This camp for me was genuinely one of the best camps I have ever been on. Even though there was a lot of rescheduling and cancellations it was still phenomenal. I’m so thankful to all the teachers for helping make the camp possible and allowing us to be able to have that opportunity (and a huge thank you to Mel for organising). There was great activities like the bowling and karaoke, swimming and the overall independence we were allowed to have. I loved being able to be with friends and a large group of people when getting lunch or doing activities. I got the opportunity to meet some new people and make friends while also getting closer with ones I already had. I really liked having dinner all together, that was very enjoyable as we were able to recollect the day with our friends and share things with each other. The rooms were great, I loved we were able to talk and laugh, the late night talks with my roommates was really awesome. The memories I made on this camp I think will genuinely stay with me for a very long time and the laughs I got as well will never be replaced.

It was so good and I am very thankful for all the planning and effort put into the camp- it came out great and I haven't had a great time like that in a while, thank you tremendously :)
