Technical Numeracy

Technical Numeracy
During the last two weeks of the Year 10 program, students in the Technical Numeracy classes worked on a variety of projects. The projects were designed to give students the opportunity to explore numeracy in real world and cross-curricular applications. The projects included:
· Making Sushi – students used a variety of measurement (weight, length, temperature) and number (ratios, time, fractions, quantity calculations, money) skills when working with recipes, costings and the actual making of the sushi.
· Creating scale model house – students used measurement (lengths, unit conversion) and number (scale, ratios) skills to design a house with a detailed floor plan and a 3 dimensional model
· One Cars – students assembled model cars to investigate the best model in terms of distance travelled and speed
· The Golden Ratio – students investigated the Golden Ratio through the use of measurement and ratios
· Infographics – students developed an understanding of how data and statistics are displayed in the media by creating their own infographics
