School Council

Dear Parents,

School council continues with its strong improvement agenda across the three areas of Finance and Governance, Education and Buildings and Grounds.

Finance and Governance has been reviewing budgets for the 2022 school year with the indicative budget due to be presented at our upcoming meeting.  As part of that budget, we are very fortunate to be continuing to fund major improvements to our school which is the result of parent feedback in our IDEAS report card.

In addition we are continuing to fund English and Mathematics quite significantly, and of course Council is very interested in developing the whole child. As such, we are very focused on funding areas of the budget which pertain to student engagement and wellbeing such as our Future Focused Learning curriculum through Lee Crockett, and Social and Emotional Wellbeing through the School-Wide Positive Behaviours Program, and the appointment of a Leading Teacher (Student Wellbeing) from 2022.

Our Education sub-committee continues to do a power of work putting policy documents together for our newly developed Mackellar Curriculum Map. This map details all of the curriculum areas of the Victorian Curriculum, and outlines how and when they will be taught. This sub-committee has, and continues to, ratify the policies that frame this very important work which will take effect from next year.

Our Buildings and Grounds sub-committee continues its work of school improvement where we see contractors updating our male staff toilets this week, repairs to our school roof and replacement of 44 skylights occurring in the coming weeks, as well as a recent and comprehensive clean up of the front of the school by Mambourin Services ensuring we are positive neighbours in our community.

We remind parents that school council elections will be held very close to the start of 2022, and as such we would encourage parents to become involved and help us make our great school an even better one.

Regards,

Gurpreet Thiara

School Council President
