Volunteers

Last week, we conducted a function for volunteers as a small token of appreciation for the many parents who give selflessly to the College The invitation was also extended to those assisting the Foundation which exists for our long-term benefit. It is wonderful to have former parents associated with the Foundation which is indicative of their incredible commitment to the school.

Whilst thanking parents, I mentioned the great joy that I receive whenever I am introduced as the father of ‘Mia, Zoe and Abbey’. Being a good mum or dad is such an important and gratifying role.

Having a strong parental and community engagement fosters a positive relationship between students, staff and families. We are fortunate to be blessed by a wonderfully supportive parent group.

We specifically acknowledged the Secondary Convenor, Paula Hackett, for her tireless work in her role. Paula has been a keen supporter of the College as a parent and former student; is the current President of the Parents' Association and has served on numerous committees.

Another former student, Christian Golding, was present. Alongside his work for the Foundation, we acknowledged Christian’s 25 years of coaching rugby at the College. Paula and Christian are fine examples of people who provide an incredible contribution to the College.

On the following evening, I joined many of our secondary teachers at another function to express appreciation to staff involved in coaching sporting teams throughout 2021. The goodwill provided by our teachers, and other staff, is outstanding.

Some years ago, I heard an exceptional former Principal remark:

No school can rise above the culture of its Common Room (staffroom).’

It is a very true statement. We have wonderful adults (parents and staff) contributing much to the positive atmosphere of John XXIII College.
