YEAR 9 ROBOTICS

The Year 9 Robotics program is off to a great start this year and making full use of the wonderful new facilities available at the McKinnon East Campus. Students have been provided with LEGO Mindstorms EV3 Robotics kits which have been fully assembled and are beginning to make their way around the classroom. The students will need to program their Robots to solve increasingly complex missions, gaining familiarity with a variety of sensors, actuators and with programming itself.

The Robotics classes will be amongst the first in the school to make use of our new 3D printer facilities at the McKinnon East Campus, and some students have already begun to take the opportunity our new technology classrooms (equipped with fume extractors, soldering irons and other manufacturing equipment) provided to complete co-curricular electronics projects.

The McKinnon Robotics program at Year 9 is a fantastic way for students to develop their skills with the use of advanced technology and we would recommend it to any student with a broad interest in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics).

NCSS CHALLENGE PROGRESS

So, we have some keen coders who are progressing along very well in the NCSS Challenge. Who knew these weeks would pass so quickly!

On Monday 7 March, the Challenge will commence Week 4. Many of the Year 7s who are taking part have been proactively completing these challenges with rigor and determination; I would like to commend you!

If you feel you’re lagging behind, remember A04 is open every lunch time and this is staffed with our amazing ICT teachers who are more than willing to help. You’re not alone, we’re in this together.
