OUTDOOR & ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES CAMP

On Monday 23 February 2022 two classes of Outdoor & Environmental Studies students headed off to Wilsons Promontory for the start of our 3-day adventure in the field.

From Hiking Mount Oberon to Surfing in Phillip Island the camp provided plenty of opportunities for experiences to use in SACs and exams throughout the year. Three very informative sessions were had with Parks Victoria Ranges, Bunurong Environmental Educators and Phillip Island Nature Parks.

A great time was had by all, even being dumped by a wave or pushed up the Mountain in a challenging little hike couldn't stop fantastic memories being made!

YEAR 7 ROCK UP BASKETBALL

The future of McKinnon basketball has been on show for the last three weeks for the annual ‘Rock Up Basketball’ tournament. Up to 80 Year 7s have been participating in mixed teams with great teamwork and sportsmanship being shown in every session.

The final week of the tournament saw the knockout phase take place. With 12 teams entering, there were some tight battles with some games decided by a free throw shootout.

The final four teams made it through to the finals with Morgan Nott and his team of Ashwyn Boag and Kynan Enwright matching up against Reece Carr and his team of Max Brunt, Evie Haywood and Mica Regev

After a tense match, Morgan’s team ran out the winners.

The other semi-final saw the early favourites Sam Howley, Erik Hennequin and Eamonn Walker take on Eli Poon, Alex Chibert and Shiwon Lee. This saw a very physical and competitive game with the underdogs taking it right up to the favourites. Eventually, Sam’s team got the job done and moved into the final.

With a very vocal crowd of Year 7 onlookers providing plenty of atmosphere, the final was a showcase of the very best basketball talent in the year level. Erik Hennequin was hot from the perimeter and Sam Howley showing his strength in the inside, there was no stopping Sam’s team when it mattered most. They ran out 14-4 winners.

Thanks very much to all participants over the three weeks!

Thanks to the McKinnon Bowls Club for hosting us along with the other 35 bowls teams!! We came up against Brighton for a fabulous Senior Grand Final. Great sportsmanship was shown and Brighton were great blokes. Also, a big thanks to Mrs Hooper for organizing and running a great day. Thanks also for the good effort to the other McKinnon teams who put in a good standard.

We are looking forward to representing the division in the SMR Finals on Friday 26 March at Hampton Bowls Club.

 JUNIOR REPORT

On Monday 28 February we were undefeated until the finals where we lost to Brighton Secondary College. At the Kingston Division Junior Lawn Bowls tournament we first versed Brighton C mixed and won 8-2. We then won 10-0 against Mordialloc mixed and won 6-1 against Sandy's C team. We sadly lost by 2 points to Brighton Secondary in the final. We were really happy with Runners-up of the Junior competition beating Mordialloc boys 7-1 !!

Overall, it was very fun and we loved representing our school.
