WHAT’S UP WITH THE STOCK MARKET?

In VCAL Numeracy the students have begun exploring the stock market in anticipation of their participation in the ASX School Stock Market Game which begins next week. In this competition the students are given $50,000 of virtual money and, after careful research, choose which companies they would like to invest in. Students can buy and sell their stocks in real time.

This term the students have been refining their mathematical skills involving decimals, percentages and positive and negative numbers which will be essential when participating in this event.

In the lead up to this competition the VCAL students have investigated companies in the ASX200, examining and comparing the data. They have discussed which companies they predict will give the best returns, especially considering the current world situation and which companies, in hindsight, would have been the best to invest in earlier.
