MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS

Josh Vassallo
Year 9 Coordinator
The middle school students have continued to thrive through 2021, moving forward positively with every obstacle that has been thrown their way. Year 9 students have embraced their goal of building respectful relationships across the wider College community. Year 10 students are in the final stages of their academic year before their exams, good luck!
Alternative learning programs and options continue to be one of the strengths in middle school. We have seen several of our students participate in the Newstart Program in 2021. Our Excellence in Sport Program continues to grow and develop many of our aspiring student athletes. We would like to congratulate Bella Gilham, Brock Cervenka and James Hose for their inclusion in the Geelong Falcons squads (as well as Pip Cumper and Aimee Wookey of Year 11, past EIS students).
Year 10 students continue to reach out and explore work experience opportunities as their academic year comes to a close. As students reach the end of middle school we encourage many of them to be proactive and get an insight into the “real world”. If students are proactive, supported work experience can offer students greater insights into potential career pathways and professional networks. In 2021, middle school students continue to excel academically, and they have been rewarded through various scholarship programs and accelerated curricular opportunities.
Our Year 9 and 10 students will conduct their end of semester exams during week 7 (Year 10) and week 8 (Years 7-9). As we move closer to the 2022 year, NGSC students have been sent the 2022 booklists. Books can be purchased second hand and there are numerous second-hand book shops, social media pages and avenues to purchase. If there are any concerns or questions with the booklists, please don’t hesitate to contact the relevant sub-school. Following exams, middle school students will once again get the opportunity to be involved in activities week, concluding with beach day. Activities week provides students with a great opportunity to further strengthen their relationships with peers and staff in an enjoyable environment.
Lastly, it’s my last week at NGSC. I would like to thank the exceptional Middle School Staff, parents/carers and most importantly, the Year 9 and 10 cohorts for a great year. I look forward to hearing how you have flourished in your journeys at NGSC and beyond, best of luck.

Outdoor Ed Teacher/Sport Coordinator
Year 9 Outdoor Education
It was fantastic getting out on an OE Excursion last week. Staff and students have been waiting a long time to get back into the outdoor environment during Outdoor Education classes. The Year 9 students thrived on their Mountain Bike ride along the Barwon River trails and then tested their skills on The Hill, which is a purpose-built Mountain Biking area near Balyang Sanctuary. Zar Friedrich-Erlacher is seen here getting some air on one of the bumps.
