JUNIOR SCHOOL NEWS

Steve Quinn
Junior Sub-School Manager
The end of the year is getting so close and yet there is still so much to do and look forward to in the Junior Sub School. The students have been fantastic at maintaining their focus and commitment to their studies as their exams approach and at supporting each other in the aftermath of all the lockdowns and remote learning. Here are just some of the things to prepare for and celebrate.
EXAM PREPARATION
Year 7-9 exams are fast approaching. They will be conducted during week 8, but now is the time students should start their preparations. It is essential that they understand exactly what content will be covered and make sure they catch up on any outstanding work or information they may have missed. Revision is also crucial. Small but regular interaction with class notes and homework is far more effective for knowledge retention than cramming the day before an exam. This should be happening throughout the semester, but there is no time like the present to focus these efforts if they have been absent to this point.
IMPORTANT: Materials will NOT be provided to students during the exam period. Students must come prepared with all the required materials including pens, pencils, erasers, calculators and any other items necessary for specific subjects.
SWIMMING & STEM PROJECT WEEK
Following exam week we have a week of engaging activities for the Junior Sub School as we near the end of the year. Year 7 and 8 students will be involved in our swimming program, where they will have the opportunity to develop their swimming skills and confidence in and around water via targeted group sessions in the pool. Also, Year 8 STEM week will commence with students designing and building Theme Parks from recycled and donated materials. If you have any questions regarding either of these programs, please contact the school.
PROGRESS REPORTS
The week 5 progress reports were recently released and if you haven’t already, we strongly recommend looking through the report with your child and discussing successes and areas for improvement. Congratulations to the students listed below who achieved an outstanding average score of 3.9 or above. You are all to be commended for your commitment to your studies even in the challenging circumstances we find ourselves in.
Well done!
