All Things 'Art'

The 2016 VCE Kew Art Show was held on Thursday 13 October.  The evening was a great success with a packed gallery viewing the works of over 45 VCE students in Studio Art, Visual Communication Design and Media.

The friends and guests of the school were welcomed by our 2016 Student Art Captain Kasia Odell, who did a great job over the year organizing art and photography competitions and promoting all things ‘art’ to the students of Kew High School.

The variety of work was remarkable with artworks produced in film/video, 3D construction and installations, laser cut projects, photography/print as well as painting, drawing and illustrations.  As usual, the work was of an exceptional quality, a testament to the great art environment created at Kew by our staff and supported by our Principal class.

All of our students should be congratulated for their accomplishments and three in particular were introduced by Kasia and were recipients of our art prizes for 2016, three $200 art vouchers graciously donated by Eckersley’s Art. The winners were – Morgan Trencher (Studio Art), Tiger Hongmung (VCD) and Dennielle Hardiman (Media)

The exhibition was opened by Kathryn Hendy-Ekers, the Curriculum Manager Visual Arts for VCAA.

Our visual art staff – Patricia Portbury, Jane Matthews, Katherine Smith, Sophie Richards, Maryanne Sammut, Danny Gesundheit and Spirro Chrisafis are extremely proud of the students for the dedication and class they displayed during the year.  They were a pleasure to teach.

Finally, a big thank you to the people who helped organize a professional looking exhibition – Clinton Greenwood, who masterminded the organization and hanging of the work and Phillip Naughton for making our space look so good.
