Medieval Europe Competition

Student Choice

Our Year 8 Humanities students were invited to participate in a competition that focused on a differentiated approach to learning. They were given the opportunity to use their student voice to select a topic of interest and a method for their final product/presentation.

We introduced the competition at school and there appeared to be great excitement around the prospect of completing something like this.  Unfortunately, we were met with another lockdown and students were required to complete their tasks independently.  This tested some but also brought out the best in others.

Our final submissions were exceptional which made finding a winner incredibly difficult.

Congratulations to our winners (scroll through for videos and images):

1st Prize - Daniel Charalambous of 8G - $20 voucher + A box set of the ‘I survived’ series Daniel presented us with a PowerPoint presentation of his Minecraft Castle.  His descriptions of the components and usage of the castle from this period of time were detailed and informative. Well done Daniel!

2nd Prize - Mannat Kaur of 8D - $20 voucher + 3 historical novels

Mannat presented us with a hand-made poster outlining the weapons used by the Knights of the Medieval period.  Mannat took the time to research the period and presented it creatively as an informational text.

Congratulations Mannat!

Equal 3rd Prize winners

Mina Al Bezaz of 8D – Minecraft Castle - $20 voucher + 1 historical novel

&

Daniel Badrul Nizam & Japmann Kaur Mann of 8B – Minecraft Castle

$20 voucher to share + 1 historical novel each

Both winners presented detailed castles from the period of time.  There were specific elements added showing us how people lived with the inclusion of bedrooms, churches and barns.

Wonderful work!

The winners will be acknowledged and presented with their prizes at their Year 8 assembly.

A BIG congratulations from the Year 8 Humanities teachers and thank you for participating.  We hope our Year 8's will join next year.
