Student Well-being

TERM 3

With the continuation of Remote Learning during Term 3, the staff and I have been very conscious of the impact is may have on our students in terms of their well-being.

While our lessons have been delivered virtually via Zoom every day, we have tried to keep the routine of the school day as normal as possible during this time. We know children respond well to routines as this helps them to feel secure and safe.

The feedback from the students after Remote Learning 1.0 indicated they missed interacting with their peers, so during Remote Learning 2.0 we introduced a set time between 3pm-3.30pm for social interaction. We also increased the length of recess and lunch to 2 one hour breaks.

The Social Interaction time gave the students in each class an opportunity to engage with their friends. This was especially important for those children who do not have siblings and/or for those who were finding isolation particularly challenging.

Also during the later part of Term 3, we reintroduced our Well-being Groups on a Tuesday between 1pm-2pm. These groups comprised of multi-age students across the school who participated in a fun activity, each organised by one of our Classroom Teachers.

Each week the students rotated to a new activity. The purpose of these groups was to give the children something to look forward to each week, to give them a break from their usual structured day and to give them an opportunity to interact with other students in year levels across the school.

The activities included:

Trivia Questions on Kahoot with Mr Brophy

Dancing and Art with Miss Wills and Ms Durrant

Art with Mrs Maher

The Well-being Groups will continue throughout Term 4 and our usual after lunch Mindfulness sessions will be reintroduced once we all return back to school.
