Green Team News

Green Team @ home

Although Green Team is not the same via webex, there are still so many ways you can make a difference with green action at home, or in the wider community, and there are many things to look forward to. There's a brief round up below, but please check in with our blog on myNHS for weekly updates.

We are also looking for a small group of students who are motivated and passionate about the environment and want to make a difference, to join in the Ozgreen and Darebin council initiative YOUth LEADing the World, a two day workshop of collaboration and action with other like minded young people.  Darebin students will have the chance to develop community and environmental leadership skills; learn about their local and global environment; identify their biggest concern; develop a vision for their community's future create action plans; collaborate with students from other schools; present their ideas to local decision-makers and have real, positive impacts on their community and environment . Held mid October, if this sounds like something you are interested in please contact Paula.Andreovski@education.vic.gov.au

National Threatened Species Day : 7 September

On the night of 7 September 1936, the last Tasmanian tiger died in Hobart Zoo and the thylacine species became extinct. National Threatened Species Day on 7 September this year will see the launch of The day of the species art project, highlighting all the endangered species of Australia, created by artists from around the country. Organised and collated by Carmel Killin, it was wonderful to see students from Northcote High participate in the art project. Go to https://www.instagram.com/dayofthespecies/

Art as action

If you are interested in creating more art as action, September also brings Spring and with it, renewal and hope. This may be a theme you could work with in the Sustainable Living art competition “UNEARTHED” entries close 30 September . Up to $3000 in prizes is up for grabs. For more information go to https://gcan.org.au/art/
