Student Wellbeing Corner

 

We would like to reassure you that we understand that learning remotely is a challenging experience for parents and students. The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic are global, but they are also local and personal for every student and member of our community. Melbourne clinical psychologist Andrew Fuller has written a brief and very practical guide for parents who are trying to support their kids with home-based learning. With his usual down-to-earth approach and sense of humour, Andrew sets out some basic principles that will help you through and give parents confidence with what you are doing with your children.

Lockdown is tough for the best of us - but when it comes to keeping teenagers entertained it's taken to a whole new level. It's easy to understand the challenge, especially for active teenagers who want nothing more than to be hanging out with their friends, but there are plenty of ways that you can involve and engage your teens at home keeping them happy and occupied. 

 

R U OK? Day is Thursday 10 September 2020. It’s our national day of action when we remind Australians that every day is the day to ask, “Are you OK?” if someone in your world is struggling with life’s ups and downs. The message for R U OK day 2020 is:

 

 

2020 has been a challenging year for everyone and circumstances have made it even more important for us all to stay connected and, for those who are able, be willing to support those around us. Look out on Compass in the coming week for ideas and resources to keep the conversation going when someone says they’re not OK, along with a few small R U OK? events.

  • Northside Psychology is a local psychology clinic located in Northcote. The Psychologists offer a range of therapies and assessments depending on your individual needs for children, adolescents and adults. Northside Psychology consists of professional and compassionate Psychologists who have extensive experience working with young people and adults. Due to COVID-19, all our Psychologists are currently conducting their sessions over Telehealth (video-conferencing or phone consultations). Bookings can be made online.

 

  • ReachOut’s forums are a safe place for 14 – 25 years to chat, connect and support each other. All forums are moderated from 9am – 11pm by staff who ensure this is a safe space for everyone. Hang out, chat about everyday life stuff, get tips from others who are dealing with stress, anxiety, friendships and the challenges of iso.   • Don’t forget - Kids Help Line provides free, confidential support, 24/7. You can phone them any time on 1800 55 1800. If you’ve thought about calling but don’t know what to expect, check out this great info on how to call a helpline which outlines what’s involved.

 

  • If you don’t feel like speaking aloud, but want to chat, connect with support through the eHeadspace website (9am – 1am). This is a free, confidential space for you to chat about what’s going on for you.
