Around Grade 5/6

Learning Collaboratively and Celebrating Success

Picture Story Books

The students were delighted to receive their picture story books and officially become 'published authors'.  Many are already identifying this project as one of the highlights of 2020.

We have had some inquiries about a second printing run. Books cost $10. If you would like to order additional copies, you MUST have your payment and email sent by 4pm MONDAY 19/10/2020. Please email anne.hibbert@education.vic.gov.au to let her know that the payment has been sent and the quantity of books ordered. Due to the complexity of the finances surrounding these, this will be the LAST order possible.

Inquiring Minds

This week, the students have been presented with a number of challenges. They are working to solve a 'Circuit Maze', but attaching missing parts to a circuit to make it functional. There are 60 challenges in the box. Naturally, some students jumped straight to 'Expert' level to test their skills!

They are also working with batteries, bulbs and wires to create their own circuits. These lessons have been filled with great scientific thinking and experimentation.

The Year 5/6 students are also investigating how heat energy is transferred and creating solar ovens. They have made initial designs and look forward to building them next week. Thank you for your support in gathering up a few household supplies to create these ovens.

Homework

No homework was allocated this week as the students readjusted to onsite learning. From next week, the students will be completing reading and one additional task (often Mathematics) at home.

We know that they have developed really solid work habits during remote learning and we look forward to this continuing with the homework tasks.
