Year 7 Humanities

Values, identity and belonging in lockdown

This year has presented to be a year like no other for our 7 students. In Term 3, they adjusted once again to remote learning and we commend them for their positive attitude and resilience during these unusual circumstances. Interestingly, we wrapped up our History unit and began studying Civics and Citizenship. The Civics and Citizenship topics cover such areas as Freedom, and what a time to discuss and explore ‘freedom’ under the COVID-19 restrictions. The students explored their personal values and how values unite people. They also reflected on values such as, Compassion, Equality, Inclusion and Responsibility as well as our school STARR values (Success, Teamwork, Ambition, Respect and Responsibility). The discussions explored how these values are upheld at MSC and within our community. It is pleasing to note that the cohort demonstrated many (if not all) of these values during the remote learning program. The topic on identity and belonging also was timely in that the students now can think deeply about who they are. It has also made it easy for them to realise the importance of belongingness.

Well done Year 7s for being resilient and using the online platforms to stay connected with your teachers and peers. We cannot wait to have you back on site!
