From the Leader of Boarding

Dear Boarding Families,

Welcome to this edition of Boarders' Buzz. It is Week 10, the final week of Term 3.

All of our boarders are looking forward to spending time at home during the coming holiday. We wish the Year 12's all the best as they prepare for their upcoming HSC exams or as they begin employment.

Boarding routine is very similar all around the world where typical school boarding exists.

I have been fortunate to have been involved in Boarding in Europe, India, Africa and Australia and in each situation, the daily boarding routine has been almost identical including study times, meal times and bed times. All Boarding in each of these countries had full boarding, flexi boarding and weekly boarding options. All have numbers of staff who live on site and all have weekend activities including Saturday sport.

Whilst Mount Erin has similar features to the daily routine referred to above, it is unique as a boarding facility because it is offers weekday boarding only and is the residence for both Kildare Catholic College and Mater Dei Catholic College.

Mount Erin provides families an opportunity to choose between two excellent Catholic Colleges and enables opportunities for our Boarders to develop friendships across the two Colleges, reside during the week for the purpose of study and then return home each weekend to spend quality time with family. The best of two worlds.

Boarding Transport Survey

The survey sent out recently is very important for us to help Boarding Parents with transport to and from Mount Erin. Thank you to all who have so far responded to the survey. We have a number of families who are yet to complete the survey and I encourage this before the closing date on Sunday, 11 October.

We would like to congratulate all student leadership applicants for taking up the challenge, stepping out of their comfort zone and applying for these roles.

Activities Permissions for Term 4

For Term 4, Parents/Carers will need to enter off-campus activities on REACH. This may be an update, continuation or a new activity. Under current COVID-19 Guidelines, the vendor/activity site needs to supply a risk mitigation policy/procedure - if continuing with an activity that already has provided this, no further actin is required at this time. However please be aware that the situation could change at any time. From the information supplied the Boarding car/transport for each activity will be scheduled.

We are aware that the NSW Government has announced some amendments to the COVID restrictions for schools in Term 4 but at the time of publication these have not been advised by CS NSW. Any changes impacting boarding will be shared with Mount Erin families at the beginning of next term.

Maintenance Thank You

We would like to acknowledge the excellent support Mount Erin receives from the Kildare Catholic College Maintenance Department. In boarding there can be immediate needs around issues such as hot water, power or air conditioning and we are grateful for the Maintenance Team's dedication to boarding.  Mr Chris Hale has been restoring the courtyard dining tables with a fresh coat of paint to the aluminium frames and reconditioning the cypress pine table tops. They will look fantastic once all are complete and will contribute to our planned outside alfresco dining in the coming Term 4 warmer weather.

Best wishes to our boarding families for an enjoyable holiday break after this busy term at Mount Erin. We look forward to see you back for the final term in 2020.
