CANTEEN ROSTER

SPORT

We recently held the annual school Athletics Carnival at McEwan Reserve. In lovely weather, both students and staff had a great day.  We intend to finalise the results on Tuesday 4 June when the field throwing events will be completed. At the moment, Murray is leading Goulburn and Campaspe.

Herald Shield

An undermanned team consisting of boys from Years 10, 11 and 12 took part in the annual competition. They played three games and improved every game. Mr. Kelly nominated Ethan Moor, Zayne Gilbert and Kayde Coonerty as our most consistent players.  Mr. Kelly was ably assisted by Trent Herbert.

Senior Round Robin

The winter Round Robin was held last Thursday 23 May. The senior girl’s football team travelled to Numurkah where they acquitted themselves very well. Most of our team are in Year 9 or 10 and had to play against girls in Year 11 and 12.   On the bus trip home it was debatable who was the most excited, the students or their coach Mr. Kelly. It was so good to see such a happy group of students. It bodes well for the future of girl’s football in the area.

In Ten Pin Bowling we couldn’t bring home the chocolates, finishing second. Barb Monks was very disappointed, as the last six times she had attended this event, we had won. She was unable to attend and is intending to sack Mr. Oliver from taking this activity.

Well done to all students who took part on the day.

Junior Round Robin

This was held on Tuesday 28 May. Barb Monks took Ten Pin Bowling and guess what? Yes they won! Well done to Barb, Andrea and the students. Not only did they win, but they arrived back with a big trophy proclaiming Mooroopna Secondary College as the Champion School!

The netballers and boys football played all day in the rain. Both teams consisted of a mixture of year 7 and 8 students and therefore had to play in the year 8 competitions. The netball team  was up against taller and older girls but fought out every game to the end. Well done girls and Ms Skeehan. We are proud of you. The boys also found themselves in the same predicament but were buoyed by the fact they won their first game against Notre Dame 2.  Thanks to Ms. Kirk and Trent Herbert who, like Ms. Skeehan, gave up their time to stand in the rain and cold to encourage our students.

KOORI NEWS

Marrung Dance has commenced the year really successfully. The dance teacher, Tanya is really pleased with the commitment of the girls involved. We are excited about the emergence of new leaders amongst the year 7 and 8 girls who are really supporting the year 9 cohort. They have commenced kindergarten visits, and more are planned.

We have enjoyed several public performances already.  These included:  Harmony Day at McGuire College and Wanganui Park Secondary College, a Year 7 Orientation Night performance at McGuire College (where our Jazz band also performed) and finally The Sorry Day performance at Queens Park on Monday 27 May. If you had of been there, you would have been so proud of our students. Several of our Year 7 boys (their cultural group commences on Friday 31 May) came with the Marrung Dancers.  Two of our Year 12 leaders were to speak to the whole audience. Iesha Chapman spoke well and, as the other year 12 leader was ill, Nhykira Mansfield a Year 9 Marrung dancer, stepped up and spoke along with the Year 12 leaders. Well done Nhykira!

If you read the local paper you would have seen photos of our girls, who also featured prominently on the local TV news. Congratulations to our students. They are a credit to their families on the commemoration of this most important cultural and social event. A big shout out to Tanya for getting everything organised.
