Boarding News

Dear Boarding Parents,

I am pleased to announce to our community that the Calrossy Board has recently undertaken a review of the operation of boarding within our school. We are very proud that we remain one of the largest boarding schools in NSW with a resilient history of residential education during our 100 years. Boarding has been and will continue to be a vital aspect of the fabric of Calrossy Anglican School.

As part of the review we compared our boarding operation against the Australian Boarding Standards and best practice within the boarding industry. I was delighted that Calrossy compares very favourably against these measures and we are excited to continue to develop and support boarding students in accessing a quality and holistic education at Calrossy.  That we have been the Number 1 school in HSC results over the past five years in northern NSW, with many boarders achieving high level results, is of great encouragement.

Parents, students and staff were part of the focus groups conducted during our review and the feedback provided has indicated several areas in which attention will be directed. As always, we encourage families to be in touch with us and look forward to continuing in partnership in the care and growth of your child.

One important outcome of the review is that the Board has asked the School to prepare plans to further improve the boarding facilities of the School, for both boys and girls. This will involve refining the shape of boarding within our School.  Already a small team has commenced this project, looking to enhance our residential areas including bathroom, sleeping and recreational facilities and to ultimately increase the number of beds available on the Brisbane Street and Simpson House sites.

I personally believe that Calrossy Boarding has much to recommend it, being pastorally based, customised to student needs, providing value-added experiences and promoting learning for all students. The culture and climate are strong and we are competitive in the Boarding School market. Our recent academic results and the vibrancy of our current boarding community are testament to this.

I look forward to sharing further details of the plans as they are developed over the next year.

Boarding Fundraiser

Well done to the Boarders who were recently involved in a fundraiser for the people of Walgett, who lost their only supermarket to a fire. The Secondary Girl Boarders arranged a grocery drive and packaged up more than 70 bags of goodies to be delivered to the town.
