Mother's Day Stall 2019

Mother's Day Flowers from Casa Verde in Errol Street.

From Gen, Parents & Friends Committee & School Council Member

There was great excitement at NMPS last week as every class took turns attending the Mother's Day stall to choose a gift for the special woman in their lives. With over 2000 items to choose from, there was something for every child to choose as a gift.

The stall featured:

  • seeds for the garden packaged by NMPS students,
  • soaps and hand creams from local Melbourne soap manufacturers,
  • plants sourced by our local florist Casa Verde,
  • handmade lavender eye pillows and purses
  • handmade jewellery, and
  • much loved pink pens and keyrings.

It was such a treat to watch each class arrive at the stall, from Preps to Year 6, all with excited eyes and coins in hand as they very carefully looked through all the items, determined their budgets and worked out what they thought the special woman in their life would love to receive.

Some children agonised over finding the perfect thing, smelling every soap, turning over every item and weighing up its worth. Others made a beeline for the item they have in mind - they know that a mug is the gift they want and they waste no time.

For the parents who work behind the stall helping out, it is a delight to be part of the process and to see the level of care each child puts in to their choice.

The Parents and Friends Committee would like to thank the local small businesses who helped us secure stock to sell, particularly Sarah at Casa Verde who chose such beautiful plants for us and Jess at Jesklah who made all the sweet jewellery that captivated so many of the students.

We also would like to thank the amazing teachers at NMPS for successfully managing the logistics of getting 800+ students through the stall in a well organised fashion.

Thanks also to the Year 6 students who helped out at the stall and helped the preps with their shopping and to the amazing group of parents who volunteered their time to help out at the stall over the three days, working with the students to choose their items and keeping the stall stocked and in order for each class.

We hope that all of the families of the NMPS had a lovely day on Sunday, enjoying the treasures carefully selected at the stall and celebrating the mothers, stepmothers, grandmothers, aunties and the female mentors that play a part in the lives of the students of our school.
