Year 10 Learning Technology Program

In 2020 South Oakleigh College will enter its third year of our 1:1 Learning Technology Program and all students across the College will have the opportunity to experience ICT learning in each lesson across every subject.

To support this program, the College provides an engaging Teaching and Learning Program using a platform recognised and readily accessible across universities and businesses around the world. The College has adopted the use of Microsoft Teams and One Note to implement the delivery of curriculum and to support students in learning the 21st Century skills required for future careers and professions.

A designated Windows based device with precise specifications is required for students to be able to achieve these important results. An information evening will be held for Year 9 families at the College in early Term 3 to explain the device packages on offer, the supports that come with the program, costs and how to order your device.

Achieving Academic Success

Students in all year levels are encouraged to be responsible for their own learning, to seek feedback where possible and to strive to achieve. The following list outlines ways parents and guardians can work with their child to achieve academic success:

  • Frequent revision
  • Students should read over work completed in class and revise key topics. Revision should occur as soon as possible and at the very least, on a weekly basis. This revision provides excellent preparation for semester exams.
  • Create a glossary. For each subject every student should develop a glossary of specific words. These words are key to understanding and will assist students engage with the subject content.

Attend Homework Club

Homework Club runs every Monday and Wednesday afternoon between 3.30—4.30pm. Teachers attend and assist students to both complete work and offer support with challenging areas of the curriculum.

Online Tutorials

These tools provide essential support across all areas of the curriculum. VCE students should access Edrolo, an internet-based tutorial service linked to VCE study designs where students can watch videos presented by experts in a field, then complete questions. Students in Middle School have access to Mathspace, enabling them to complete Maths problems and receive feedback.

Read and discuss teacher feedback

Each Learning Task/ CAT is returned to students with written feedback. Parents and students should read this feedback and discuss areas for improvement.

Keep up to date

If students are absent, it is essential they keep up to date with their course work. They should talk to their teachers and/or check the Lesson Plan on Compass, then complete missed work.

Review reports

Parents and guardians should read progress/semester reports with their child and discuss their successes as well as areas for improvement.

Students are encouraged to talk to their teachers when they need help understanding a topic or with completion of any assessment.
