Assistant Principals' Report

Every day counts

Below is an excerpt from the Department of Education’s Every Day Counts program:

Going to school every day is the single most important part of your child’s education. Students learn new things at school every day – missing school puts them behind.

The building blocks for a great education begin with students coming to school each and every day. Students develop good habits by going to school daily – habits that are necessary for success after school, either in the workplace or at further study.

Missing school has a big impact academically and socially. It affects students’ test results, including VCE and, just as importantly, impacts their relationships with other students, possibly leading to social isolation.

There is no acceptable number of days for missing school. Each absent day puts students behind and affects their educational outcomes. This can lead to fewer subject choices and will impact achievement in years 11 and 12.

Should your child be absent from school due to illness please contact the College and email your Mentor Group teacher or Head of House and provide the College with a copy of a medical certificate. Missed class work can be viewed on Compass so students can stay up to date with their work requirements.

Remember Every. Day. Counts.

Student accident insurance, ambulance cover arrangements and private property brought to school

The Department does not provide personal accident insurance or ambulance cover for students.

Parents and guardians of students who do not have student accident insurance/ambulance cover are responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including the cost of ambulance attendance/transport and any other transport costs.

Student accident insurance/ambulance cover policies are available from some commercial insurers and can be obtained for individual students.

Private property brought to school by students, staff or visitors is not insured and the Department does not accept responsibility for any loss or damage.

Contact details for parents/carers and student medical data

If this information needs updating please contact the school as this data is vital to ensure prompt communication if necessary.

Bicycle Helmets and Scooters

It is imperative that parents support school policy regarding bicycle helmets. All students who ride a bicycle to school MUST wear a helmet. Parents will be contacted immediately if a student is riding without a helmet. Students riding scooters to school must bring a padlock so they can be safely secured in the bicycle shed.
