Class Clowns

On Friday 24th February at the Mechanics Institute, we had Ash Johnson-Shortis conquer the Ballarat Heat of 'Class Clowns'.

Class Clowns is the Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s national development program for young people.

Class Clowns introduces teens aged 14-18 to comedy through creative workshops with professional comedians, using artistic activities to hone comedic talent and build self-esteem, confidence and resilience.

Past participants - Rhys Nicholson, Annie Louey, Aaron Chen and William McKenna have gone on have a career in show biz, and we’re always on the look-out for the next generation of funny people.

It was so lovely to see a big crowd of supporters from Ballarat High School there to cheer on both Ash and Naomi (who also was outstanding, fingers crossed she gets a call back as a wild card). Ash and Naomi held themselves confidently on-stage and were unwavering in their delivery of brilliant hilarity.

What this means now is that Ash will head to their next heat in Melbourne, with the hopes of making it to the Grand Final.

This event takes place each year in late Feb/early March. Feel free to pop in to the Robinson Centre Staff room to inquire with Mrs Quick about entering the comp in 2024 🙂

Huzzah!
