Alumni Program Update

Year 12 Induction Assembly

The Class of 2023 was inducted earlier this term, with a special assembly in their honour.

We warmly welcomed back Remi Bilson (2014) who addressed the cohort with a message about saying yes to opportunities presented to them. Quoting Forrest Gump "Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get", she encouraged students to try every chocolate flavour. The debating, rowing, and theatre opportunities presented to her at BHS helped shape her into the person she is today and motivated Remi to pursue a law pathway. Remi, a lawyer at Mulcahy and Co. advised the students to be their own judge and not to let anyone else dictate their happiness.

Jasper Meehan and Todd McGinley, our highest ATAR achievers from 2022 also joined us. Jasper had a plethora of advice, including finding a healthy balance, having fun, putting yourself first, and not letting anyone tell you that your dreams and aspirations aren't valid. Jasper spoke of an analogy he'd recently heard "Your ATAR is the key to opening your door. It doesn't matter if someone has a different key to you, as long as your key opens your door".

We thank Remi, Jasper and Todd for returning to inspire those following in their footsteps.

Mick Russell Visit

Innovation and entrepreneurship were the topics of conversation when we welcomed back from the Class of 1990, Mick Russell recently.

Mick, founder of Spike Creative and graphic designer by trade, educated our senior Business Studies students on the highs and lows of running your own business, including some of the failures encountered along the journey.

He encouraged the group to believe in themselves and spoke about 'sliding door' moments, including taking advantage of opportunities presented.

The class enjoyed viewing the footy cards he brought as examples of his portfolio and other activations such as the Warnie Mojis app, the AFL virtual audience campaign during COVID, and the recent FIBA Women's World Basketball Championship collateral produced.

How lucky our students are to have such incredible alumni in their midst. Thanks Mick!

Megan May Visit

Osteopath, Megan May (nee Fraumano) visited BHS in week 4 to discuss her career pathway with our Year 10 Business Studies students. A graduate from the Class of 2006, Megan is a Co-Director at Eureka Osteo and two Oasis Pilates Studios.

She spoke of the joy her job brings her, the growth of the business, ensuring they always maintain a competitive advantage and the importance of continuous education.

With her visit in the lead up to Boat Race, Megan was excited to find that the tradition of hanging banners for the event very much alive. Megan rowed in the Girls' First Crew in 2006 and has been involved in our rowing program, volunteering over the years since graduating.

We thank Megan for giving up her Thursday morning to join us.
