HOTL 2023

Sunday 26th of February was the 2023 Head of the Lake with 600 rowers from across Ballarat competing. Ballarat High School had 13 crews this season including 7 year 9 crews, 4 senior girls crews and 2 senior boys crews.

Our year 9 girls squad all rowed very well with div 5 and 3 getting 3rds places. The senior boys double scull had a win for the first time we have been in this event.

Ballarat High School was the host school for this year’s Head of the Lake meaning we had to set up the event, run the catering, merchandise, presentations and any other jobs involved. This took a huge team of parents, staff and volunteers to run the event so a big thank you to all involved, there were too many to name here, but your contribution was very much appreciated!

We also had staff member James Warke and school captain Isaac Jantzen who did a great job as commentators for the event.

Congratulations to our spit crew that did a great job supporting all crews on the day. They were respectful and positive all day.

Good luck to the crews competing at state titles this weekend and at the Head of School Girls in a few weeks’ time.

A full season rowing report will be in the 2023 Arch magazine.

Rob Simmonds – Director of Sport and Rowing
