Buon Carnevale   Happy Carnevale

A Carnevale, ogni scherzo vale

A saying in Italian which means anything goes at Carnevale time.

In Italy this week, the cities will be alive with music, colour and costumes to celebrate Carnevale, a grand celebration before the restrictions and solemnity of Lent.

Carne in Italian means meat, vale stems from the Latin for levare (to remove). So literally, the word Carnevale means to remove meat which is part of the Catholic rituals at Easter time.

In class this week, the students took a slight detour from their learning schedule to join the Carnevale celebrations and make masks. You can always count on glitter to create some excitement.
