Grade 1 and 2

The Grade 1s and 2s have had a fabulous start to the year and the teachers have been so impressed with how well they are adjusting to being back in the routine of school.

Some of our highlights so far have included:

A visit from Healthy Harold

Learning a new song with Nelson, our new school chaplain

Library time

Hockey Clinic

In the classroom we have been busy.

In Writing we are focussing on the fundamentals of writing and making sure we reread and edit our work. Students have enjoyed writing recounts about their weekends and special activities and proudly share their work during sharing time.

In Reading we are learning strategies to sound out unknown words and we have practised looking for smaller words in big words. We have also read lots of stories that reflect our school values around Responsibility, Respect, Honesty and Optimism.

In Maths we have started skip counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s for Grade 1s and beyond for Grade 2s. We have also been learning about 2D and 3D shapes and made some models of 3D shapes.

And in Inquiry we are learning about communities, what it means to be a part of a community and why community is so important! We have worked together to create some artwork for our learning community and are looking forward to learning more on this important topic.
