We aspire to offer authentic, quality educational experiences that develop futures, create opportunities and inspire potential; enabling our students to be valued and contributing members of the wider community. We share and celebrate our successes and achievements.
Mission
Develop Futures – Create Opportunities – Inspire Potential
Objective
Our school’s objectives are considered as part of the 4 yearly strategic planning process and reflected in the goals listed in our current School Strategic Plan (SSP). We also develop an Annual Implementation Plan to operationalise the goals and key improvement strategies contained in our SSP.
At Jackson School we value:
Learning
Independence
Safety
Respect
Responsibility
We aim to develop independence through providing and fostering a safe, respectful and responsible community to enable our students to be valued and contributing members of the wider community.
Over the last four years we have added additional learner characteristics which we teach our students to become a Jackson Learner. These eight Employability Skills will enable all of our students to be contributing members of the wider community. These are focused around our values of learning and independence.
Behavioural Expectations
Jackson School acknowledges that the behaviour of staff, parents, carers and students has an impact on our school community and culture. We acknowledge a shared responsibility to create a positive learning environment for the children and young people at our school.
Shared expectations of staff, parents, carers and students to support positive student behaviour are set out in the Respectful, safe, engaged: shared expectations to support student behaviour statement.
Students are also supported by school staff to meet expected standards of behaviour as outlined in our Student Wellbeing and Engagement Policy, Inclusion and Diversity Policy, Bullying Prevention
Staff must follow our school and department policies and the Victorian Public Service Code of Conduct and Values. Teaching staff also adhere to the Victorian Teaching Profession's Code of Conduct.
Parents and carers play a vital role in helping their child understand and meet shared behaviour expectations. Additionally, information about the expectations of parents and carers to ensure schools remain respectful and inclusive places is outlined in the department’s Respectful Behaviours within the School Community Policy, and our Respect for School Staff Policy. Schools can share these expectations through use of posters available in over 30 translated languages.
As principals and school leaders, we will:
model positive behaviour and effective leadership

As students, we will:

- actively participate in school
- not disrupt the learning of others and make the most of our educational opportunities

As part of the School-wide Position Behaviour Support (SWPBS/PBIS) program we have redefined our behaviour expectations in 2025. These are still focused around our three values of safety, respect and responsibility. Instead of seven learning areas these have been condensed into three learning areas: indoors, outdoors and community (which includes online and buses). At Jackson our students receive Jackpoints for displaying these expected skills which they have been able to spend on rewards in our Jackstore. This year, due to increased classes we will have to relocate our Jackstore which will open soon. Students can still use their Jackpoints at our online store in the meantime.
