Dear Parents, Students and Friends of St Virgil’s College,

Year 11 Retreat

Year 11 students attended their first retreat day on Tuesday which is an essential part of their spiritual development at St Virgil’s College. This opportunity is also an enjoyable time for them to spend away from the normal school routines, taking time with friends, teachers and with God. For so many of us life is allowed to wash over us without true reflection, however the world wants us to keep us and our young people on the move to live life on the surface. It is a new idea for many students, and quite counter to how they normally experience life, but beyond what is gained on the day, it is hoped that students will also learn the value of stopping and taking time at other moments in their life. Thanks to Mrs Kim Mooney, Assistant Principal – Religious Identity & Mission, along with the support of many staff for their support of students on the day.

Senior School Athletics Carnival

Preparations are well underway for the return of the Senior School Athletics Carnival which will be held on Monday March 6 at the Domain Athletics Centre. After many years of modified carnivals and trials, all Senior School students will attend on the day. Maximum levels of participation via entering events and supporting their House are expected and encouraged. The day is enjoyable and helps build school and House spirit, as well as allowing many students to demonstrate their individual prowess. Parents/carers are welcome to drop in during the day. A recent EdSmart notification was sent and responses were required to assist with transport on the day. If you have not yet responded, I ask that you do so at your earliest convenience to assist with our planning.

Staffing Update

Next week we will welcome two new staff members. Trish Vernyik will commence as Payroll and Administration Officer, joining us from The Hobart Clinic and bringing with her extensive business administration and payroll experience. Covering Mrs Lucinda Gear’s maternity leave as College Counsellor, Annemarie Francis is currently completing her Graduate Diploma of Psychology to add to her Bachelor of Education and Graduate Certificate of Counselling for Education Professionals. Along with her teaching experience in Victoria, Annemarie is a mental health ambassador and was previously Wellbeing and Mindfulness Program Coordinator, Female House Mentor and Acting Head of Campus.  Please make both Trish and Annemarie welcome.

Best wishes for the week ahead.
