Leader of Pedagogy

Ms Lauren Donnelly

As students have settled into their learning on campus, they will have noticed the staff members who move in and out of their learning space. At O’Connor Catholic College we use learning walks as an opportunity to develop our own teaching pedagogy by exploring the expertise that is in our classrooms. Our experts in key learning area content, learning support and classroom management demonstrate the growth that can take place by working together as a team from our most experienced teachers to those who have just begun their educational journey.

One of the key aspects of these learning walks is to engage with students in learning conversations. These learning conversations are based on the learning intentions and success criteria co-constructed by the classroom teacher and students to achieve success in the learning area.

These five questions are:

  • What are you learning?
  • How are you doing?
  • How do you know?
  • How can you improve or move your learning forward?
  • Where do you go for help?

This focuses a learning conversation less on the activity but on the learning that is happening. Transitioning a focus from completing an activity to understanding the learning that has or is being achieved by the students creates opportunities to engage with how we are developing as a group.
