Year 12 Outdoor

Xander Brooks

Last week our year 12 Outdoor ED class made the long journey down to Mornington Peninsula for an overnight camp. This camp was an important contribution to our next sac, where we gathered important historical information on First nations, specifically the Bunurong people and their relationships with the land before and after European settlement. On our first day we participated on a 5km cultural hike with Adam who gave us insight on understanding the land through the flora around us; and the relationships the Bunurong people had with the land prior to European settlement. Later that afternoon we arrived at Port Nepean National Park where we participated in a scavenger hunt to collect information on the Quarantine camp and the first military system of that area. The next day we got up early and arrived in Portsea for a snorkelling and historical tour. We had the opportunity to tour Port Phillip Bay on boat and snorkel with stingrays, seals and weedy sea dragons; it was an incredible experience, although it was very cold.
