School Council
WPS Annual Implementation Plan and Policies
The current School Council met on Wednesday 22nd February in which we approved the school’s 2023 Annual Implementation Plan. Each year the school submits a plan to the Department of Education addressing the year’s goals.
WPS’s goals are:
- Learning - Support both those who need scaffolding and those who have thrived to continue to extend their learning, especially in numeracy
- Wellbeing - Establish a multi-tiered response to support student wellbeing.
- Learning - Implement a professional learning focus on feedback and its delivery that allows a conscious approach to feedback being a predominant feature of teaching practice. Making feedback a predominant element of the year's Learning Coach program.
It’s a responsibility for the school council to ensure WPS Policies are routinely updated. This cycle the following policies were updated:
- Equal Opportunity and Anti-Discrimination
- Health Safety and Wellbeing
- Inclusive Workplaces
- Private Car Use
- Records and Information Management
- Restraint and Seclusion
- Privacy and Information Sharing
- Workplace Bullying
You can access the school’s Annual Implementation Plans and WPS Policies through the school website under DOCUMENTS, FORMS and POLICIES. You can also contact the school office for a copy.
The School Council started to set goals for 2023:
- To reinstate and reenergise the Buildings and Grounds committee – including working bees to ensure our new school grounds are looking their best and utilised effectively.
- To start planning our new school building launch, due for the second half of this year.
- To recruit and transition to a new School Council Treasurer.
WPS Staffing
Teacher shortages and filling teaching positions have become a challenge across all Victorian schools. The school council would like to acknowledge Peter and his leadership team on the recruitment of our new teachers Amber, Amelia, Nathan and Mia, who have made a seamless start to their teaching at WPS. Thank you to all the teachers and staff at WPS for a great beginning to 2023!
Governance and Annual General Meeting Current members of the 2022 School Council are:
- Parent members - Jeff Elliot (President), Katie Hodge, Jen Bowden, Lucy Battersby, Tom Hartnett, Paula Nunez
- Staff members - Peter Seddon, Simone Radolnik, Stephen McLeod,
- Community members - Warrick King, Scott Hamilton
In 2023 Warrick King will be retiring from his position on the council and as treasurer. Warrick continues to be a member of council, even though his youngest child graduated from WPS in 2021. We are extremely grateful for the time Warrick has given to the school as a parent, community member and treasurer. Warrick is hoping to mentor a new treasurer as the role transitions in 2023. Please speak to Peter Seddon or Jeff Elliot if you think this rewarding role is for you!
The role of a School Council member is very important and holds accountability over school strategic planning, finance, policies, just to name a few responsibilities. All school council members are committed to completing Department for Education training to ensure we are upholding our obligations.
The 2023 School Council AGM will be held on the 22nd March at 6pm in the WPS Staff Room. All parents are welcome.
Thank you to our parents and friends
Thank you to the Elaina, Michelle and the team on the P ’n’ F who have made a great start to 2023 with many new parents being welcomed to their first meeting. Toastie Tuesday’s and Choc-Coated Ice Cream Friday’s are taking off, ensuring the weeks are full of fun and fundraising! Thanks also to Paula and those involved in the second-hand uniform shop on their first sale day. They made over $200 profit, ensuring all families have uniforms, and our school continues to be sustainable.
