Today is a great day to be you!

Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships

The ‘4 Rs’ as it is commonly referred to in educational settings, is a statewide curriculum framework that focuses on developing students’ social, emotional and positive relationship skills. The 4 Rs learning materials cover important topics such as emotional literacy, problem solving, positive coping strategies, stress management, gender and identity.

We are very proud to be a lead school in the space of Respectful Relationships. Last week, our Respectful Relationships leader, Danielle Anderson, myself, and four brilliant students, took part in a student consultation forum that involved representatives from the Department of Education and nine other lead schools. The aim of the forum was for all students to provide some genuine voice towards the continued development of the 4 Rs program - their feedback and ideas being used to update and improve the curriculum for 2023.

Fiona (our Respectful Relationship student leader), Amelia (our Resilience student leader), and two Year 5 students, Lilah and Ines, worked online with other schools for two hours discussing the program and sharing ideas. They were involved in many breakout rooms which allowed them to speak directly to one of the co-authors of the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships program. All four students were amazing - they were honest, mature and respectful, and provided many wonderful suggestions towards how the 4 Rs could be improved upon.

Highlights for me were their ideas for ‘real life and age-appropriate’ scenarios that could be explored in lessons back in classrooms, and the openness and confidence with which they shared their thoughts. Well done to these students for being involved in a really important educational process!

Year 4 Camp

From Wednesday to Friday last week, our entire cohort of Year 4 students finally had their first school camp - at Camp Weekaway in Benloch. It was a pleasure to personally go along and get involved with the kids over the three days. It was cold - very cold - but the students showed the resilience and grit we hoped to see and braved the conditions to have a great time. Archery, canoeing, laser tag and the zipline appeared to be the favourite activities! Other activities included hut building, the giant maze, low ropes course and cooking damper.

The campfire on Wednesday night was greatly appreciated in the cold night air, and Thursday night’s Talent Quest was amazing viewing! A number of tired students emerged from their beds on Friday morning for the last of their activities, and to their credit, they made it through three very full and non-stop days! There’s never much time for ‘down time’ on camps - so we’re sure all of these kids caught up on a bit of sleep over the weekend (at least, we hope they did for the sake of the parents and carers out there!).

I’d like to finish with a huge thank you to all of the staff who attended the camp. These camps simply couldn’t run without the support of our staff, who are giving up their own family time over the entire duration of camp to ensure our students can take part in these rich experiences. Anju Mehta was our brilliant camp organiser, and she definitely dotted every ‘i’ and crossed every ‘t’ - it was so well planned and executed! It wouldn’t surprise me if Mrs Mehta even came up to the campsite prior to the camp to check the density of the firewood or the heater settings in the cabins - every detail was accounted for.

Thank you to the rest of our Year 4 team who attended - Tegan Cant, Ashleigh Cormark, Vicki Tzimos and Lee Giddings; and I’ll extend that thank you to Amber Keramidis, Khay Le, Deirdree Geilings, Mitch Clark, Megan Campbell, Karen Hastie, Olivia Choi, Heidi Slattery, Moira Mugnier and Alex Campbell. You were all amazing across the three days!

Finally - here's a quick snapshot of the camp! If you would like to see a few more photos and a special performance that debuted at the Talent Show at camp, come along to the Senior Assembly on Monday September 5th!

Book Week - Dress Up Day

Coming up on August 23rd is our annual Book Week Celebration/Dress Up day! As is the spirit at Rangeview, all staff will be getting well and truly involved, and we encourage all of the students to whip out the costumes and come along as one of their favourite characters from the wide and wonderful world of literature.

The theme this year is 'Dreaming with eyes open...' - so get creative and let's see those wonderful costumes! The day will involve a whole school assembly and a costume parade, along with buddy grades pairing up for some fun and engaging 'Book Week' activities.

The Fathering Project - LEGO Masters

This fun event brought to you by our Fathering Project group is creeping up on us very quickly! It is now only 11 days away - Sunday August 28th at 1:00pm. Information has gone out via Facebook, Compass and you will also see many posters up around the school - we encourage you to register to ensure you don’t miss out on the opportunity to participate!

It is important to note that whilst it is being run by The Fathering Project, it is absolutely open for all family members to attend - which definitely includes the mums, grandmas and anyone else out there who is keen to test out their LEGO skills! It is a community event open to all - so get down to the school gym on August 28th!
