Level 5/6

Level 5 and 6 News

There is never a dull moment in Level 5 and 6 as our students embrace the many varied learning opportunities that come their way. Over the past couple of weeks, we have been exploring Chance, Data and Probability in Mathematics. Using games to develop our understanding has seen many enthusiastic participants actively completing tasks and it has been wonderful to see students creating their own challenges for their peers.  Students loved the opportunity to work through a mathematical escape room challenge in their classes where the winner could discover the golden key and decide the fate of the class for the next lesson!

Our Inquiry Unit this term is ‘Market Mayhem’ and the students are learning about how to create a business and become savvy entrepreneurs. They are hoping to create their own businesses and projects that could potentially be sold at the Rangeview Fair in Term 4. As a part of this unit, students participated in a Smoothie bar incursion where they were challenged to create a smoothie product and marketing campaign that promotes health and wellness in their community. Working in teams, students discovered what it takes to become a business owner. They investigated the preferences of their target market, designed and learned about cost and profit before trialling their delicious and nutritious products. Once they had created their ultimate smoothie recipe, students used their digital literacy and design skills to create marketing materials to promote their product and brand. Then it all came down to the pitch to see which team had the skills to convince the panel of sharks (teacher judges) to invest in their company. The students did an amazing job of selling their products and we can’t wait to see how they go when creating their own business later on this term.
