Student Free Day – Monday 22nd August 2022

Monday 22nd August 2022 will be a student free day at Rangeview Primary School. Students do not attend school on this day.

Each year schools receive 4 student-free days (when student instruction does not occur) for professional development, school planning and administration, curriculum development and student assessment and reporting. On this day our staff will be taking part in a full day of professional learning aligned with our Annual Implementation Plan. Teachers will be undertaking learning centered around the RRRR Curriculum, The Resilience Project, Staff Wellbeing and participating in our annual Anaphylaxis, CPR and First Aid Training.

OSHClub will be available for students on this day.  https://www.oshclub.com.au

Bookings can be made via the online booking portal or by contacting OSHClub on 1300 395 735.

Spotlight on Learning

At Rangeview Primary School, we strongly believe in student engagement and students having agency into their learning. With this in mind, we have begun a Spotlight On Learning at our School Assemblies. Each week a child from each level will be chosen to talk at assembly and discuss how they are engaged in their learning and something that has 'stuck' with them this week. This week we heard from the following Junior students; Darius, Mia, Edie and Ollie.

DARIUS 1GP For my portfolio task in Maths, I had to create a picture graph. First, I collected data on everyone’s favourite dinosaur. Then I cut out pictures of dinosaurs to make the picture graph. I noticed tally marks and dinosaurs. The most popular dinosaur was the Brontosaurus. Mine was also the Brontosaurus!

MIA 1GP Mrs Tzimos visited our class, and she gave us an open-ended maths problem. She only gave us a picture of some animal legs and we had to draw the animals using the legs. Then we had to add the sum and work out what the number of legs was. The number was 20. We then had to write a number sentence.

4 + 4 + 2 + 4 + 4 + 2 = 20

I know 4 + 4 = 8 and there was 2 left over which equals 10. Then there was another 4 + 4 = 8 so 2 left over equals 10. And 10 and 10 equals 20! GO MATHS!

EDIE 2H Recently I have been learning to code on the app Scratch Junior. It really interests me because I have been using this app at home for a while and finally, I have used it at school! I used Scratch Jr a lot at Open Day, and I showed my parents everything we have been learning. My favourite part about coding is that it is almost like making a mini TV show! You have to pick a character and a background and then we had to code the characters. You can name the project by pressing the yellow square in the top right corner. Most people will have this app at school.

I would like to thank Miss Horvath for teaching us all about coding. If you do not have this app, I definitely recommend it to you.

I love learning at Rangeview!

OLLIE 2L For Inquiry, I have been learning about dinosaurs. We have also been making a model skeleton T – Rex. The first week, the class collected sticks and Mr Le put my class in groups and I chose to make the tail. Mr Le found a good stick for the tail. We then started sticking the other sticks on a sheet of a T – Rex including the tail, head, ribs, spines, legs and arms. Mr Lee rearranged our classroom tables to fit the whole skeleton in.

I love making and building. Learning at Rangeview is fun.
